Minnesota State Requirements:

Continuing Education Hours:
Continuing Education 24 Hours Biennially
Including 3 Hours of Ethics
LTC Producers ONLY Including Initial 8 Hours LTC, 4 Hours LTC every compliance, State Specific, Must Include MN Medicaid Information
License Renewal:
Effective July 1, 2010, the license renewal date has changed from October 31 to the last day of the producer's birth month.
This change will be phased in according to the accompanying "Birth Month Renewals" chart.
Courses accepted for CE Credit:
General - Classroom
General - Company Sponsored
General - Distance Learning
No more than one-half of the credit hours per licensing period required under this section may be credited to a person for attending courses either sponsored by, offered by, or affiliated with an insurance company or its agents.  
Final Exam:
Internet Courses - The final examination must be either an encrypted online examination or a paper examination that is monitored by a proctor who certifies that the student took the examination. No monitor required for online exam.
Self-study / Correspondence - The course content and time must be verifiable, and for every student, attendance must be physically monitored throughout the exam by a verifiable proctor.
General Monitor Affidavit needed for paper exams
Course Subject Requirements:
Effective July 1, 2010 - Three (3) Hours of Ethics each compliance.
LONG TERM CARE REQUIREMENT:
Initial 8 hours LTC (must include MN Medicaid information), compliance 2/1/08
4 hours LTC (must include MN Medicaid information) every 2 years following
Carryover Requirements:
Credit hours cannot be carried over to the next compliance period.
Course Repetition:
Credit will not be given for a course that is repeated within a 3-year period.
Exemptions:
The "inactive waiver" has been eliminated. Insurance producers who are no longer actively engaged in the solicitation and sale of insurance will no longer be able to apply for a waiver of continuing education requirements.
