Iowa State Requirements:

Continuing Education Hours: Continuing Education 36 Hours Triennially
Including 3 Hours of Ethics
LTC Producers ONLY Including Initial 8 Hours of LTC, 4 Hours LTC every compliance

Effective January 1, 2011, Iowa Administrative Rule 191.15.72 requires all Insurance Producers selling or soliciting Annuity Products to obtain four (4) Continuing Education credits by an approved vendor offering Annuity Products Course.
This is a one-time requirement and is not a condition of license renewal.
License Renewal Date:
License renewal date is the last day of the agent's birth month
Types of courses accepted for CE Credit:
Classroom Courses
Self-Study Courses - SS credits that do not count towards a national designation are limited. Only half the producer's credits may be obtained through SS if they are non-designation courses.
Online Courses
An Instructor can earn the same number of credit hours as the student
Final Exam:
Final exams are required to be monitored by
  1. Disinterested Third Party

  2. Representative of the Provider

Course Subject Requirements:

Three (3) hours of Ethics each compliance period
All agents who wish to sell fixed index life or annuity products on or after January 1, 2008 need to complete a 4-hour training course
LONG TERM CARE REQUIREMENT:
Effective January 1, 2010, producers will be required to complete a one-time training equivalent to 8-hour prior to engaging in any long-term care insurance sales activity. Producers who have not completed a total of eight qualifying training credits on or before 12/31/09 will be requires to complete the entire one-time 8-credit training requirement in a classroom setting.
Four (4) hours Long-Term Care every compliance following.
Carryover Requirements:
Credit hours cannot be carried over to the next compliance period.
Course Repetition:
Credit will not be given for a course that is repeated within a compliance period.
Exemptions:
Non-resident producer who lives in a state where CE is required
Individuals who are on extended active duty with the U.S. Armed Forces.
