Including at least 2 Hours Ethics/Consumer Protection

License Renewal Date:
License renewal date is the date when the license was issued
Types of courses accepted for CE Credit:
Classroom Courses – Half of the credit hours must be classroom credit
Self-Study Courses – Only 15 of the hours may be Self-Study
Classroom Equivalent
Professional Designations – passing a part of the program is a way to earn credit.
Approved insurance-related college/university courses.
Final Exam:
Final exams are not required to be monitored / are allowed to be open-book
Course Subject Requirements:
2 hours of ethics/consumer protection each compliance period.
Annuity Training and CE (HB 1294)
  1. Licenses issued or renewed on or after 4/1/10
  2. 4 hour initial training and 4 hour annual CE
Annuity Requirement:
Agents Licensed BEFORE September 1, 2011 - Any resident agent licensed prior to September 01, 2011 that has not taken the annuity certification must take either the certification course or the one-time training course. Beginning March 1, 2012, all licensees must take the one-time training course.
Agents Licensed AFTER September 1, 2011 - Resident and nonresident agents must take the one-time four-hour training (unless nonresident state has an annuity requirement). Eight hours of continuing education must be completed during the resident agents' two-year licensing period.
Nonresident agents are not required to take the eight hours of continuing.
LONG TERM CARE REQUIREMENT:
Initial 8 hours LTC Partnership, compliance by 1/1/09.  Course needs to contain state specific information.
4 hours LTC Partnership every 2 years following
Carryover Requirements:
Credit hours may not be carried over to the next compliance period.
Course Repetition:
Credit will not be given for courses taken more than once in each compliance period.
Exemptions:
Individuals who have been licensed in Texas continuously for 20 years or more.
Extensions or exemptions may be granted for an illness/medical condition (with proof).
Nonresidents in good standing in home state and has a reciprocal agreement with Texas.
Active military.
